FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s a capacitor?
A capacitor is a small electronic component that stores and releases energy. Over time, old capacitors can leak or fail, causing issues like no video, bad audio, or a completely dead console. We replace these with modern equivalents during recaps.
Do you do combined shipping?
Yes! For small items like cartridges, controllers, or handhelds, you can usually pack them with a console to save on shipping. We'll refund the excess return shipping costs to you once work is complete.
If you're sending more than 2 desktop consoles or 5 handhelds, please email us first so we can help plan it out.
Do you do custom builds?
We sure do. From IPS screen mods to shell swaps, button colors, battery mods, and more — if you've seen it, we probably build it.
The retro world is huge though, so if you're looking for something specific or unique, shoot us an email and we'll talk options!
My console is really corroded or dirty. Are there extra charges?
Basic cleaning is always included.
But if your console has heavy corrosion, liquid damage, or insect nests, there may be additional labor fees, especially if complete disassembly, deep cleaning, or trace repair is needed. We'll always ask before charging extra.
What if you can’t fix my console?
We're very happy to have around a 90% success rate with repairs. But special circumstances do come up. If a repair isn't possible, we’ll return the console to you at no extra cost.
Already used labor and parts costs are generally non-refundable, but:
-
If we’re interested in salvaging the system, we may offer to purchase the console for parts.
-
This is entirely optional and only offered on a case-by-case basis.
Do you replace cartridge save batteries?
Yes! We can swap the save battery on Game Boy, GBA, and other cartridges.
Do I need to provide return shipping?
Nope! Return shipping is covered in your service. You’ll only pay for shipping your items to us.
